Quarantine Spring

~ Quarantine ~

She sits by a window
curtains drawn back
cold sun streaming
coffee in hand and
watches the world
wake to new day

nobody walking
few cars move
trees blush'n
the gentlest
 green - in
honor of

Spring

It’s May 5 and by noon, people were beginning to emerge, many bundled in stocking caps and warm coats against the mid 40ยบ temps - in spite of bright sun. Then, to my surprise, two police officers mounted on massive horses came strolling down the sidewalk - right past the window where I sit!

Night Visit

~ Night Visit ~

you were lying on your back
tucked under the covers
slightly turned away
totally at home

in that old blue thread bare
tee you often wore
did you yield to an ethereal
craving for a moment in
your old familiar bed?

I rolled over in the night
saw you lying there and thought
oops I’m in the center crowding him

moved back a bit to give you space
content as if returned to our old normal

only to wake in the morning and realize
your visit was but a sweet dream
a sweet and welcome vision

an echoing of warm routine
once commonplace and

Listening

~ Listening ~

Listening to Godde
who is listening to me
~~~~~
You listen to my heart’s pain
as I pour it out by name
Most Holy Godde
 I listen in the silent quiet
remembering your
royal presence
knowing I am loved
knowing I am held
a beloved child
 Later, when the blessings flow, and
a thought or notion starts to grow
I know Your Hand, is guiding me
as with a calmer heart I listen
and give thanks
The thing is, so much of prayer is listening to Godde listening to us.  Sometimes, when prayers seem to go unheard, we may be unaware til later, that we’ve been heard - then, seeing an answer, recognize connection to our plea.
Our answers may not come in words - or according to our timing. They may not be in the form requested, but we can trust that blessings will be there as surely as new seasons come again - and sunshine after rain.
April Snow Day
~ April Snow Day ~
Yesterday I stepped outside to toss the garbage
and noticed my scraggly forsythia with wildly flailing
branches in sore need of trimming. I clipped a few and
threw them in a pot with a couple daffodils already there
Today the world is spread with snow again
all is grayish white outside the kitchen window
dark clouds casting shadows on this cold April day
yet on my table stands a beautiful bouquet of sunshine
Snow in the morning. Sun in the afternoon. And this little poem somewhere along the way. Enjoy!
The One Who Left
John's Legacy
~ The One Who Left ~
the one who left walks with me still
his smile in every daffodil planted long ago
in every flower his garden grows year after year
in every poem I write, in every peaceful night
- lingers deeply rooted in the soil of my life
nurtured so long with love
I too will blossom on
Trapped
~ Trapped ~
The face is old, the heart still young
the mind not keen as once it proved
old roots still stir around the bend
yet  are now locked  soul deep
within what might have been
for you, my love
are ever gone
Slow Lane
~ Slow Lane ~
the older I get
the shorter the future
the wiser I grow
the dimmer the past
the livelier me is
now in the slow lane
happy to watch
the world rushing by
Small Blessings
~ Small Blessings ~
I’m lucky to be at ease with solitude in
this interlude of home bound isolation
as the world hides from our invisible
enemy lurking in the air -anywhere
Remembering John's Garden
~ wishpoem ~
a lot of wishes
swishing through the air today
not one stays to play
Tomorrow would have been John's 85th birthday. Today's Poem-A-Day prompt is: Write a wish poem. So my page is full of wishes yet not a one to share except this small haiku.
