Echoes - Psalm 130 adapted

Day's End - A Cobb's Hill Sunset

~ Psalm 130 adapted ~

for personal praise and prayer

by JoMae

8/19/22

Out of the depths I cry to you, YHWH;

  my Sovereign, please hear my voice.

May your ears be attentive

to my supplication.

If you, O YHWH, kept a record of sins,

Dear Redeemer, who could stand?

But with you there is forgiveness,

so we can reverently serve you.

~~~~~~~
I wait for YHWH, my whole being waits;
in Godde's Word I put my trust.
I wait for Wisdom more than
sentinels long for the dawn
Dear ones, put your hope in Christ;
Living Word, Promised Messiah
in whom is unfailing love and
with whom is full redemption
for Jesus the Christ
redeems us from all iniquity
THANKS BE TO GODDE!
Spirit of Godde, Christ present in my soul
your love, omnipotent - greatly to be praised
your ways are mystery, beyond all understanding
your name, above all names, creator, parent of us all
in you Beloved One, we place our trust, our only hope
for we are your beloved children breathed into being by
your own breath of life, born to serve, to honor, to obey
born blessed to bless our neighbors far away and near
In your sovereign name we come dear Jesus with
hearts bent low, aware of sins and shortcomings
seeking to be led home into the arms of Godde
please hear our prayers of thanks and praise
laments and joys; sorrows and confessions
for we often stray too far from you instead
of staying near to hear your dear voice
see your light and wisdom, and be
guided by your teaching and
example of loving mercy
and perfect justice
* * * * * * * * *
to be followed by:
A time for praise and thanksgiving….
A time for lament and confession…
A time for petitions, for please....
A time for simply listening...
to Godde enthroned above the skies
Echo of Psalm 18:1-19
Echoing the Psalms -
Sometimes when I read a psalm, I hear it as a prayer and adapt it just enough to be my own - building on the scaffold of the ancient language. So most of these words are straight from the NIV, yet personalized for today's voice in echo of David’s. Enjoy!
~ Love Song of Psalm 18 ~
echoed by JoMae
My Godde is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I called to my Redeemer, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from deep distress.
The cords of death entangled me
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me
the cords of the grave coiled around me
the snares of death confronted me
In my distress I called to my Redeemer;
I cried out to my Godde for help.
<><><><>
I love you, O Jehovah, my strength
you are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer
please accept my prayer of thanksgiving
even before I was able to ask, O Godde,
from your eternal throne you heard my voice
my cry came before you, into your ears
I knew of your covenant
had long lived in your love
remembering your faithfulness
trusting your grace, I found peace
your Presence held me through
death’s upheaval and the turmoil of grief
to prevent my falling into the pit of despair
your presence in the chaos saved my life
<><><><><>
while the earth trembled and quaked
the foundations of the mountains shook
they trembled as when you are angry
smoke rose from your nostrils
consuming fire from your mouth
burning coals blazed forth
parting the heavens
you descended, dark clouds under foot,
then mounted the cherubim and flew
soaring on the wings of the wind
you made darkness your covering
your canopy around you --
the dark rain clouds of the sky
out of the brightness of your
Presence, clouds advanced with
hailstones --  and bolts of lightning
You O Godde, thundered from heaven
your Most High Voice resounding, you
shot your arrows, scattering the enemy --
with great bolts of lightning you routed them
the valleys of the sea were exposed, the
foundations of the earth laid bare at
 your sovereign rebuke - at the blast
of breath from your nostrils
you reached down from on high
took hold of me and drew
me out of deep waters
you rescued me from my powerful enemy
from loss, too strong - confronting me
in the day of my disaster, but you
O Godde were my support
you brought me out into a spacious place
rescued me because you delight in me
because of your great love for me
with a heart full of praise and gratitude,
~ Thank You ~
David’s graphic description of Godde’s fierce anger battling on our behalf, echoes well the chaos felt after the trauma of sudden loss of one’s beloved - and the confused disorientation that ensues. Yet through the chaos, we are rescued. Saved because of our Redeemer's abundant love for us. Amazing Grace!
Rays of Hope
~ Rays of Hope ~
Godde, in your glory, please lighten this day
shine through the clouds in your own special way
a bright gray sky - with its promise of hope
looks ready to burst right through the
fray of life’s joy - now as astray
as the end of a rope
Dear Godde of all justice, in your love we
Trust
Morning Prayer - Trust
~ Morning Prayer - Trust ~
Photo by Dan Spoelhof: View from a Rooftop
Our FatherMother Godde,
It is morning again. I wake rested and thankful, wondering what this day will bring. Our world, it seems, is spinning chaotically. Each day brings new concerns. I used to wake and wonder what new ideas would prompt my exploration for the day. Now I wake to see what new crisis is pending. Yet I believe you know the end from the beginning and will make all things work according to your design in due season.
Trusting your promises, we remember what has gone before. Please help us to rest in that trust; in your faithfulness to all generations, in your omnipotent, almighty and just love. Thank you for walking with us through these confusing, frightening times, dear Godde.
In Jesus' name,
Amen
Godde our Maker
~ Creator Godde ~
it is You who have made us, not we ourselves
You have molded us in Your likeness with
lives made to love, honor and respect
You entered our lowly realm to model what
our lives should look like as images reflecting
Your Holy Self, imperfect human mirrors of Divine
~ Perfection ~
 oh how we have failed to show our love to
You, our Maker, Redeemer, Friend - how we
have failed to love our neighbors as ourselves
please Godde, make us see our blind shortcomings
make us value others as we do ourselves, guide
us to own respect and justice for all, to love as
"Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture."  Ps 100:3 KJV
Psalm 100:3 as memorized in childhood, came to mind whiile listening to a message recently where the pastor asked Godde our Maker to make us...  My musing led to this small prayer.  Enjoy!
Wandering Prayers
~ El Shama ~
scattered clouds of thoughts and prayers drifting through
the heavens to the listening ear of the God who hears
~ Wandering Prayers ~
Sometimes I pray on pages
sometimes words wander in
the air as I ride out the quiet
and ponder mysteries of life
- old friends and new, while
savoring small insights and
wonder with grateful heart
about blessings faithfully
received  - and the gifts
I trust will be there as
needed once again.
Amen
Yesterday
~Talking to the Page ~
Dear Paige,
A few thoughts here on prayers and answers:
~ Yesterday ~
As if I’d had a huge desert
which stuffed my belly full of
sweet nostalgia - imaginations
and curiosity, indulged in visiting
what was and what will never be
until,  heart bursting, satisfied, I
shut the book - and with a sigh
of thanks close out the day
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
All my life I’ve walked with Godde - sometimes badly out of step and far behind, yet always aware of moving in the shadow of those divine parental wings. Always aware, yet too often, sadly without much of a care. Thankful prayers were lifted, (or were not) - life was good.
And when snares or road blocks threatened, ardent prayers poured out - for others or myself. Godde was always there, even in the doubts, or wandering -  or when answers were not clear.  Often, looking back, I see answers that were there - tucked away for when the time was right.
Then there were the dramatic answers, almost puzzling in their clarity - along with those unsought and only known enough to remind me of the myriad of other times Godde’s hand must have kept me safe with out my even realizing it. For example, an accident I hadn’t seen coming yet was miraculously able to avoid.
But a a few dramatic prayer moments in my life stand out. As once, between a rock and a hard place, desperate for an immediate solution, amazingly a heart was changed and we were spared an impossibly wrenching choice. Or, more frivolously, while looking for parking in a dark down pour I prayed guiltily for help before giving up and going home. Guiltily, because of bothering omnipotent Godde with such a mundane request. Yet as I dared lift that prayer, on one last turn around the block before turning back, a car pulled out directly in front of my coffee shop destination.
These examples are from 20, 30 years ago, but such remembered moments have always made me ponder. Was Godde, in answering the frivolous, reminding me not to be afraid to ask? And in the crisis showing me to trust?
And then there was yesterday.  A quiet wish, unspoken, unimportant in the scheme of life today, happened.  Unbeknownst to me, an old pastor friend was scheduled to preach online - a friend I’ve never heard, in spite of occasionally searching. A career of small churches whose messages were not recorded I suppose. I’d pretty much forgotten about it, when on Saturday evening, the name kept popping up in my mind until on a whim I searched and there was the announcement and link to a small church out west somewhere. What fun to watch and listen to that meaningful message yesterday. And to see that family again after many years. She blessed my heart and made my day! And I am so very thankful!
